Curling
Strathcona offers 2 ways for our students to get involved in curling. We take part in a Fall Recreational League and in the Senior Playdowns. Students can participate in one or both.
Fall Recreational League
The Fall Rec. League is a chance for students to develop their skills in a more relaxed atmosphere. Each year we enter 3 or 4 teams depending on student interest and coach availability. The league is a mix of competitive curlers and absolute beginners so all skill levels are welcome. The coaches focus on skill development but in an atmosphere where winning is secondary to having fun.
We play Wednesday’s from 4:00-6:00 p.m. and practice most Mondays. The season runs October through December.
Senior Curling
In January and February, curling gets serious. Strathcona can enter up to one Boys, one Girls and one Mixed team to complete in the City Championships. The teams and players are selected based on skill level demonstrated in the Fall League and/or in club play outside of school.
If students are not able to curl in the fall league but wish to compete for a spot on the Senior Teams, they must identify themselves to the coaches early in the season.
