Canadian Studies

Canadian Studies 15 is a bridging course designed to help our English Language Learners gain important foundational language and knowledge before enrolling in future humanities courses. The course provides students with a rich language-learning atmosphere where they explore essential concepts related to Canadian society. Students use their own growing competencies in English to examine and engage with a range of academic and content-specific materials connected to the Social Studies curriculum.

English Language Learning (ELL)

At Strathcona, our English Language Learner (ELL) program supports both the academic and linguistic needs of students who are learning English as an additional language. The course is designed for students who are new to studying English and is worth 5 credits after successful completion. Students engage in a number of language learning activities, including grammar instruction, novel studies, reading tasks, writing activities, and speaking tasks such as presentations.
