MUSICAL THEATRE

The Musical Theatre Program, provide our artists with a supportive learning community of students and theatre professionals. Students have worked with artists from Edmonton, to New York, to London.

The Scona Musical Theatre Co. builds upon the artist’s natural abilities and encourages new talent in the area of singing, dancing and acting. Our ambition is to deliver outstanding, relevant, creative and rigorous training for those with a passion for musical theatre performance. The Musical Theatre program is specifically designed to meet the needs of students who wish to combine acting, voice, and dance and to develop confidence and ownership in all three areas. Emphasis is placed on professionalism, acting fundamentals, voice training and a foundation of dance skill. Students develop performance skills in a challenging, creative and caring environment with a great importance on ensemble building and community.

The 5 credit auditioned program will give students the tools to analyze a script and song, make informed acting choices, use music to propel the story, and understand the techniques required to create a compelling character for the stage. When students graduate from the musical theatre course, they are ready to go anywhere to study, travel and learn. Scona Musical theatre is all about the ability to:

  • ENGAGE students in theatre experiences that explore the universal themes of the human condition and develop their ability to think critically about the theatre they attend.
  • BUILD a community of confident, expressive people who, in producing classic and contemporary musicals, are committed to and responsible for their own learning.
  • FOSTER a new generation of artists by providing connection to artists and mentors in the community and beyond.
  • EXPAND the impact of high school theatre artists in Edmonton.
  • TRANSFORM the individual and collective voice in creating a community of artists who support each other through the process.

Alumni from this program are performing all over the world from London, to Japan, in Netflix series to local Indie films-they are ready for it all.
